On dit qu\u2019il est le tenant de la ligne claire pour son \u00e9criture, mais celle-ci est aussi un art consomm\u00e9 de l\u2019ellipse, de l\u2019ironie d\u00e9licate mais aussi tr\u00e8s cin\u00e9matographique. Cela tombe bien puisque notre h\u00e9ros, ou plut\u00f4t anti h\u00e9ros comme souvent dans les romans d\u2019Echenoz, est un r\u00e9alisateur de films. Du coup notre romancier va user de toute sa science de l\u2019\u00e9criture et du cin\u00e9ma pour jouer avec les plong\u00e9es et contre-plong\u00e9es, les travelling, les plan-s\u00e9quence, pour suivre les aventures de Robert Bristol dans son projet de r\u00e9aliser un nouveau film.
